Music for Peace: Anniversary Concert in the Luther Church Solingen!
On November 16, 2025, the Luther Church in Solingen invites you to a special concert evening dedicated to commemorating the end of the Second World War. It starts at 6 p.m. and the program is all about Karl Jenkins’ impressive work “The Armed Man – A Mass for Peace”. Solinger Nachrichten reports that this concert not only serves as musical remembrance, but also represents an urgent appeal against war and violence.
The piece premiered 25 years ago in London and combines various biblical texts as well as religious and historical sources from different cultures. The music combines classical sounds with modern rhythms and invites you to think about peace and understanding. The concert promises to be both emotional and inspiring.
Contributors and special additions
On this special occasion, the Dorper Kantorei, the Mozart Choir Remscheid and the Solingen Youth Symphony Orchestra will be on stage under the direction of District Cantor Stephanie Schlüter. Soprano Steffanie Patzke and baritone Thomas Busch take on solo parts. The Youth Symphony Orchestra will also perform an additional piece: “Three Pieces from Schindler’s List,” which is also dedicated to the themes of memory and compassion. This addition will further enrich the evening and bring listeners closer to the emotional depth of the program.
The ticket prices are fair at 15 euros (reduced 8 euros) and can be purchased at various ticket offices such as Solingen-Live, the Thalia bookstore in the Hofgarten and in Pot-Pourri-Neumann (Ritterstr. 4). If you're at the last minute, you can also try your luck at the box office.
Remembering as part of culture
Such concerts are of great importance so that the lessons from the past are not forgotten. A concert by the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra similarly addresses the retrospective of the war and the hope for peace. The focus here is, among other things, Dmitri Shostakovich with his 8th String Quartet, which serves as a memorial to the victims, and Aaron Copland's Violin Sonata, which deals with the death of a friend. hr-Sinfonieorchester emphasizes that the works of contemporary composers such as Jessie Montgomery and Michiru Oshima also address peace and memory.
In our fast-moving times, it is important to attend such events and take advantage of the cultural offerings that not only entertain but also stimulate thought. The call for understanding and confidence that the concert in Solingen and similar events offer is as necessary today as ever.
Whether as part of the audience or as an active participant - everyone can make their contribution to a more peaceful coexistence.
