Lower Rhine Cup 2025: RWE challenges Solingen in the first duel!
Football fans experienced an exciting event in yesterday's draw for the first round of the 2025/2026 Lower Rhine Cup. This took place in the office of the Lower Rhine Football Association (FVN), where FSJ member Elias Weisker acted as a “raffle ticket” and the chairman of the association football committee, Wolfgang Jades, led the draw. The focus was particularly on the pairings for the 32 duels, which were drawn from two different pots: Golf from the regional league downwards into pot 1 and the upper league upwards into pot 2. Media Sportservice reports that the first games will take place on the weekend of the 9th and 20th August 10, 2025, while the third and regional league teams will start on August 19 and 20.
The draw comprised a total of 128 entries, with a clear focus on the men's, women's and over-32 competitions. For MSV Duisburg, last year's finalists and third division team, a game against Victoria Mennrath (state league) was drawn, which is a theoretically feasible draw. On the other hand, the defending champion Rot-Weiss Essen meets SV Solingen from the district league in an exciting match. Expectations are high as 43.3% of survey participants believe that MSV Duisburg could triumph again. FuPa reports that spectators cannot take part in the games for the time being due to the World University Games 2025 in the Ruhr area.
