Regensburg's handball players: Third competitive game, third setback!
The 2025/26 handball season is anything but pleasant for ESV 1927 Regensburg. After a 23:29 defeat against VfL Waiblingen, this is already the third defeat in a competitive game. How Home sport Reportedly, Regensburg were behind 2:10 after just ten minutes. In the first half they were unable to withstand the pressure and conceded the biggest deficit of 4:13 in the 20th minute.
The goalscorers in the first 30 minutes were rather rare. Theresa Lettl led with three goals, followed by Lisa Opitz, Melina Hahn, Julika Birnkammer, Maxie Fuhrmann and Milena Stürenburg, who scored a few goals together. Coach Bernhard Goldbach was dissatisfied with the performance in the first half and criticized numerous technical errors and poor throwing behavior by his team.
Reaction in the second half
After the break, the ESV women showed a different side: Leni Goldbach took over the position in the backcourt and Regensburg reduced the lead to 15:19 in the 38th minute. But Waiblingen countered with a 4-0 run and brought the gap to 23:15 in the 42nd minute. Despite an even second round (14:14), the points ultimately could not be won. Goldbach summed up: “In the second half we showed character and stuck more closely to the match plan.”
Another focal point of the ESV season was the injury to Franzi Peter, a key ball distributor who has not been on the field since mid-July. The next opponent for Regensburg is Solingen-Gräfrath before they take a two-week break.
A bright spot in the home game
Regensburg's defense and the strong performances of the goalkeepers made it difficult for Michelfeld to become dangerous. Johannes Kreibig contributed five goals in the match, while Marcel Elgeti even hit the mark seven times. The team managed the lead solidly until the final whistle.
For the next matchday, which is against SG Helmbrechts/Münchberg on October 12th, Müller is demanding more passion and intensity from his team in order to consolidate their position in the top league.
