Burg Castle shines after renovation – celebrate the reopening with us!

On September 6, 2025, the time had finally come: Burg Castle, a historical jewel in the Bergisches Land, celebrated the completion of a comprehensive renovation. After years of renovation work, the time-honored facility now shines in new splendor and will feature an innovative museum concept. The festive start to the new chapter in the castle's history took place on Saturday with an official ceremony attended by numerous invited guests. Solinger Tageblatt reports on the enthusiasm that prevailed among both those present and the organizers.

“The renovation of Burg Castle has been a long process that will now be completely completed by autumn 2025,” said those responsible. Visitors can already admire the newly designed squares and courtyards as well as the completely renovated walls and buildings. The museum itself will be equipped with barrier-free access so that everyone can experience the interesting insights into the history of the Counts and Dukes of Berg. Stadtteilmanagement Burg emphasizes that the castle was also open to visitors during the renovation, so that citizens could take part directly in this exciting process.

A look back into history

The roots of Burg Castle go back to the 12th century; it was the seat of the Counts of Berg for centuries and was the scene of lavish festivals. But in the 19th century the castle fell into ruins. Reconstruction only began in 1887 by the castle building association, which has been working on the restoration in stages ever since. “The current renovation has managed to preserve the historical authenticity of the castle and at the same time improve it,” explains a spokesman for the project. Wuppertal.de highlights that an impressive 54.65 million euros went into the renovation, which was made possible not least through funding from the state, federal government and the EU as well as the cities of Solingen, Remscheid and Wuppertal's own funds.

But it's not just the structural restoration that's important; the reopening is seen as an important event for the region. Tomorrow, September 7th, there will be a discovery day for everyone interested. Here guests can get to know the new museum and view the newly renovated rooms. Visitors can also expect a colorful program on the Schlossplatz, which is sure to create a good atmosphere. And even after the reopening, things will remain exciting: from November, a new exhibition will present the castle's treasures.

An event with shadows

However, not everything is rosy in Burg Castle: In Ohligs, a group of young people caused a negative uproar on Saturday night. Around 20 election posters from various parties were vandalized. The police have sought information about the incidents and one can only hope that such acts do not dampen the positive mood surrounding the reopening.

Overall, one thing can be said: Burg Castle is well on its way to attracting new streams of visitors and making the region's history come alive. It will be exciting to see how the castle will develop in the coming months.
