DLRG in Münsterland: Large-scale water rescue exercise successfully completed

Last weekend, an impressive exercise by the DLRG districts of Steinfurt and Münster took place in Münsterland, which focused on preparing emergency services for an emergency. This exercise had the particular aim of strengthening cooperation between the various units. The scenario was extremely dramatic: an evacuation of a retirement home in a flood area was on the agenda. Loud radiorst.de The DLRG emergency services in the Steinfurt district were alerted on Friday evening via the Divera alarm app.

The actual operation began on Saturday morning at 8:57 a.m. From 11:30 a.m., the emergency services from various local groups - including Lienen, Ibbenbüren, Greven, Rheine, Recke, Burgsteinfurt, Emsdetten, Neuenkirchen/Wettringen and Altenberge - arrived in the meeting room at the outdoor pool in Greven. After taking a group photo together, the emergency services set off to the site at the old lock on the canal in Münster. A demanding task awaited them there: injured people had to be cared for and taken to the other side of the bank by boat. The ASB Münster took over the care of the rescued patients, while a care center was set up at the Monasteria Yacht Club.

Realistic scenarios for emergencies

The exercise included not only evacuation, but also other realistic scenarios. In the evening, after refreshment at ASB Münster, the second exercise scenario began at 7:00 p.m. The water rescue units were divided into two groups. One group carried out an area search in the forest and on the Dortmund-Ems Canal, while the other completed a night-time diving search exercise in the Hiltrup loading port. A total of an impressive 51 emergency services and 6 trainers from the Steinfurt district were involved in this demanding exercise. The exercise ended around 1:45 a.m. with a detailed debriefing.

Such operations are particularly important in regions with heavily frequented waters without guard stations. The Rapid Response Group - Water Rescue (SEG-WR) is essential in such emergencies, as well as on dlrg.de described. Tasks such as searching for and rescuing drowning people and averting environmental hazards are carried out here. The appropriate equipment is of great importance in order to be able to react in the best possible way even in catastrophic situations.

As part of the DLRG exercise in Münsterland, it also became clear that cooperation between various organizations, such as the ASB and the DLRG emergency services, is crucial for successful water rescue. This type of cooperation was also recently made clear at an event in Stuttgart, where DLRG emergency services carried out a water rescue in the Neckar together with the fire department and the Maltese people. The exercise was both educational and exciting and provided valuable insight into the challenges of water rescues like them malteser.de has reported.

Thanks go not only to the dedicated emergency services, but also to the realistic accident actors from RUND and all other supporters who ensured that the exercise ran smoothly. Only through such intensive preparation can the emergency services act quickly and effectively in an emergency.
