Symphony concert Witches and Ghosts”: Magical sounds in Kamen!

A musical highlight is coming soon in Kamen: On Sunday, November 16, 2025, the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen (NPW) invites you to its third symphony concert in the “Witches and Ghosts” series. From 6 p.m., the concert hall at Hammer Straße 19 will be filled with impressive sounds.

The program includes two important works: the secular cantata “Erlkönig’s Daughter” by Niels Wilhelm Gade, which was written between 1851 and 1854, and Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy’s “The First Walpurgis Night,” which is based on a ballad by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. Gade, a respected Danish composer, is considered one of the great musical minds of his time and was also Mendelssohn's mentor in Leipzig.

A look at the composers

Niels Wilhelm Gade is known not only for his chamber music and eight symphonies, but also for his dramatic works and cantatas. With “Erlkönig’s Daughter”, also known by the Danish title “Elverskud”, he created a piece that stimulates the imagination and takes the listener into a mystical world.

The other composer of this performance, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, is one of the most important representatives of Romantic music. His work “The First Walpurgis Night” shows not only his musical talent, but also his ability to translate literary content into resonant forms.

Who is responsible for the performance?

The musical performance will be provided by the choir of the Schwerte Concert Society, the Concert Choir of the City of Kamen and the soloists of the NPW. Under the direction of the new choir director Maik Morgner, who succeeded Franz Leo Matzerath at the beginning of 2024, the concert promises to be a top-class performance.

Tickets for the concert are available online via the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen ticket service. If you have any questions, you can contact Doris Erbrich on 0 23 03 / 27 – 14 41 or by email at doris.erbrich@kreis-unna.de. Further information can be found on the Neue Philharmonie Westfalen website.

A musical experience not to be missed! At a time when culture and community are particularly important, this concert represents a great opportunity to be captivated by music and enjoy the historic sounds of Romanticism.

On November 4th, 2025 we are excited and looking forward to the upcoming event, where the Kamen cultural landscape will be enriched with another highlight. Let's hear the voices of the past and celebrate the magic of music together!
