A painful chapter for the fashion world: Gerry Weber, the traditional fashion manufacturer from Halle/Westphalia, has decided to close all branches in Germany. The bankruptcy filing under self-administration was filed in March 2025 after the company came under increasing pressure in recent years. With 32 own shops and 11 outlets in Germany, more than 560 employees are now affected by the closure. However, the situation is tragic and reflects the challenges that the entire fashion industry in Germany is struggling with. The economy is weak and costs for energy, rent and personnel are rising. Not only Gerry Weber, but many other brands are also fighting for their survival.
Crisis in the fashion trade
In the first half of 2023, many fashion companies were under financial pressure due to a stagnant market.
