In the run-up to the new season there is a bitter setback for 1. FC Viersen. Both the club's second team and SV Lürrip II are withdrawing from the district league A before the start of the season. As a result, the league is reduced to just 14 participants, as [fupa.net] reports.
The withdrawal of the two teams came as no surprise. Head of sports department Manuel Moreira explained that the risk of not being able to field a full team was simply too great. Both teams have had increasing difficulties with player availability in recent weeks. SV Lürrip II had already announced its departure at the beginning of the week, which further exacerbated the already tense situation.
Lack of players and departures
The problem is not new: In June, around a dozen players left 1. FC Viersen for Wickrathhahn, which led to a massive squad shortage. It remains unclear whether these departures were voluntary or as a result of headhunting. During the summer break, Viersen II tried to acquire new players, but without success. Moreira also emphasizes that there are always challenges with the commitment of the players within the club.
The withdrawal was decided with a heavy heart in order to give the remaining players the opportunity to join another club. Players affected by the dissolution have the option of moving to the third team of SV Lürrip, as the first team regularly plays in the district league and the third team is active in the district league C.
“We hope to be able to build a new second team in the district league B next year,” said Moreira, expressing his hopes for a positive turnaround. In recent seasons, Viersen's second team has played a decent role in the A-League, most recently finishing eleventh to secure their stay in this league. But now it's time to digest the new situation.
Transfer activities and league season goals
Last but not least, the clubs' season goals are interesting. While some teams like SV Erolzheim are considered favorites, others like FV Biberach II are fighting to stay in the league. Preparations are in full swing and numerous test matches have already been scheduled.
