Optimally prepared for breastfeeding: Free lecture at the Viersen AKH!

On November 1, 2025, a special event for expectant mothers will take place at the Viersen General Hospital, which will comprehensively address the topic of breastfeeding. Breast milk, so reported Lokalklick.eu, is optimally tailored to the needs of newborns and changes its composition depending on the age of the infant. Early milk in particular, also called colostrum, has its own character: it is thicker and rich in valuable carotene. It also contains antibodies and enzymes that are essential for building the baby's immune system.

The breastfeeding information event will take place on Wednesday, November 19th from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Led by lactation consultant Anja Paschen, a one-and-a-half-hour lecture will be offered that deals with central topics relating to breastfeeding. This includes how to properly latch on the baby, different breastfeeding positions and also practical tips for storing breast milk and breastfeeding-friendly supplementary feeding. Registration is required and interested mothers can register at paschen@akh-viersen.de. The best thing about it: the lecture is free!

The importance of breastfeeding

Breastfeeding offers numerous health benefits not only for the baby but also for the mother. According to the Consumer advice center Breast milk promotes the bond between mother and child and is always hygienic, free and at a perfect temperature. According to recommendations, mothers should breastfeed for at least the first four months. Breastfeeding not only quenches the child's hunger and thirst, but can also prevent allergies. Breastfed babies generally have fewer chronic illnesses, which gives them an important advantage for the future.

The benefits for mothers cannot be ignored either. Breastfeeding can reduce the risk of breast and ovarian cancer and type 2 diabetes. In addition, breastfeeding results in a stronger emotional connection between mother and child.

Simple tips for a successful start to breastfeeding

The first few weeks of breastfeeding can be challenging. However, mothers should not be discouraged. The Making the right connection between you and your baby requires patience and practice. If you have problems breastfeeding, it is advisable to ask midwives or breastfeeding consultants for advice. Often even small tips or corrections can make a big difference, making breastfeeding a joy for both parties.

In a neonatal intensive care unit, the need for closeness between parents and their child can be particularly strong. Early counter-regulation is necessary here in order to prevent attachment and developmental disorders. Attachment and development-promoting accompanying measures not only support the child's neurological development, but also increase the well-being of the entire family.

In anticipation of the event at Viersen AKH, expectant mothers have the opportunity to receive valuable information and tips about breastfeeding so that they are best prepared for the arrival of their little miracle.
