Yesterday Borussia Dortmund celebrated a clear 2-0 win against 1. FC Heidenheim in the Bundesliga. In the coaching position, Niko Kovac was responsible for the black and yellow team, and his tactics quickly had an effect. This match took place as part of the third matchday of the league, and it was another setback for Heidenheim as the team has no points yet. For Dortmund, however, the win marks the continuation of a positive start to the season as they were able to collect seven points out of a possible nine.
Serhou Guirassy, who moved to Dortmund from VfB Stuttgart in the summer, was the star of the game. In the 33rd minute he scored the first goal with a header from a precise cross from Julian Ryerson. Guirassy, who has already impressed in the Bundesliga this year, scored in eight consecutive league games. Just a moment later, shortly before half-time, Maximilian Beier made it 2-0, supported by an assist from Karim Adeyemi. Heidenheim's goalkeeper Diant Ramaj was able to fend off a dangerous header from Guirassy, but ultimately had to accept two goals.
Heidenheim's difficulties
Heidenheim had to struggle with personnel difficulties. Budu Zivzivadze was shown a red card in the 21st minute after a foul, which put the team outnumbered. Head coach Frank Schmidt then had to rely on his creative players, but ultimately was unable to mount any decisive counterattacks. Mathias Honsak had one of the best chances for the visitors in the first half, but his shot was blocked in the 40th minute.
After the break, Dortmund remained in control of the game, but found it difficult to score any more goals. BVB appears to be in good shape for their upcoming Champions League game against Juventus, scheduled for Tuesday. Guirassy has already shone not only in the Bundesliga, but also in the Champions League. This season, for example, he scored nine goals there, including two in a 3-1 win over Shakhtar Donetsk. In total, he contributed almost half of the 20 goals Dortmund scored in the Champions League.
Role of Guirassy
The expectations for Guirassy are high. Dortmund legend Roman Weidenfeller has rated him as one of the best transfers after the likes of Haaland, Bellingham and Lewandowski. The pressure to lead Dortmund to titles rests on his shoulders. Guirassy has already scored 28 goals in a previous Bundesliga season and is aiming to score as many goals as possible in the current season to help BVB.
After these exciting developments in the Bundesliga, the Champions League is now just around the corner. It remains to be seen whether Dortmund can also perform so powerfully in Europe. But one thing is certain: Serhou Guirassy remains a crucial point in Niko Kovac's strategy.
