Singing together: A ray of hope for people with dementia in Ennigerloh!
There will soon be music in Ennigerloh and Oelde: a special singing offer for people with dementia and their relatives will start at the end of August. The initiative, which goes by the name “Choir Wish Concert,” aims to promote a sense of community as well as mental and physical health through singing together. Again Spökenkieker reports, weekly meetings take place where the focus is on singing, dancing and telling stories.
The music therapist Ursula Skuplik and the music therapist Katharina Wilczek lead the groups and ensure a welcoming atmosphere with piano accompaniment. Folk songs, seasonal songs and fresh melodies are sung at the meetings. What's special: Participation takes place in pairs, namely for people with dementia or cognitive changes together with a relative. These can be spouses, children, grandchildren or friends, like that Singing sound supplemented.
Promoting community and health
Music is known to have a healing effect: it not only serves as a medium for communication, but can also overcome barriers and awaken emotions that often cannot be expressed with words. The benefits of singing are particularly notable for people with dementia. Studies show that singing can relieve anxiety, depression and restlessness. Cognitive stimulation not only promotes memory and attention, but also increases social interactions and strengthens the sense of belonging.
Participation in the singing meetings not only offers a space for musical expression, but also the opportunity for exchange and encounters. Getting to know new people can provide valuable support, especially for relatives.
Start of the new offers
The first meetings after the summer break are planned for Ennigerloh on Wednesday, August 27th, at 4:30 p.m. in the “Haus der Treffen”, Im Drubbel 22, and for Oelde on Friday, August 29th, at 4:00 p.m. in the “von-Galen-Haus”, Ennigerloher Straße 5. Anyone interested is welcome to contact us by phone on 02522 / 830 740 or by email ursula.skuplik@schulefuermusik-waf.de to report. Registrations are also made via the website www.schulefuermusik-waf.de accepted.
The “Choir Wish Concert” initiative is a further step towards improving the quality of life of people with dementia and offering them and their relatives a space for human connections and joy. This shows that singing together is much more than just entertainment - it is a bridge into the past and a connecting element in the present.
