K3 between Warendorf and Everswinkel: full closure from August 4th!

From August 4th, the K3 between Warendorf and Everswinkel will be completely closed due to urgent renovation work. The Warendorf district has announced this measure because the road is severely affected by potholes, cracks and ruts. The closure is expected to remain in effect until Christmas, according to wn.de and Kreis Warendorf. There is a diversion for motorists via the K19 and the B64, while cyclists have to be rerouted via farm roads. The bypass leads to Müssingen and then along the B64, where you should initially pay attention to the uneven road conditions.

As part of this renovation work, the parallel cycle path will also be converted. However, this faces particular challenges because the condition of the cycle path has deteriorated significantly due to root damage and other influences. According to those responsible, the cycle path is expected to be completed in spring 2026, which means a long but necessary test of patience for cyclists. The renovation work is part of the large-scale renovation of the infrastructure in the Warendorf district, which began in August 2023 with various construction phases.

Investments in infrastructure

These measures are part of a larger plan in which North Rhine-Westphalia will invest a total of around 600 million euros in the renovation and expansion of the transport infrastructure in 2025. As the land.nrw reports, among other things, 231 million euros are earmarked for the maintenance of state roads and around 39.5 million euros for the construction and renovation of cycle paths. This shows that promoting cycling infrastructure is a key concern and that the authority is taking concrete steps to increase road safety.

The total costs of renovating the road and cycle path in Warendorf and Everswinkel amount to around 8.3 million euros. Of this, around 5.81 million euros will flow as funding from the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Work on the first section of the cycle path was completed in spring 2025, and further expansion is now being pushed forward with vigor. Mayor Sebastian Seidel and other decision-makers, including District Administrator Dr. Olaf Gericke, have emphasized the importance of this renovation and are confident that the measures will sustainably improve traffic safety in the region.

Residents and commuters would like to see the renovation as a positive development for the region's transport infrastructure and can hope for a safer connection between Warendorf and Everswinkel.
