Lions Club Warendorf: 3,500 euros for therapeutic riding!

The Warendorf Lions Club has once again campaigned for the special education support of children and donated a generous 3,500 euros to the Teresa Kindergarten. This donation ensures horse-assisted therapy in 2025 and enables the children to regularly visit the riding hall at Hof Lohmann on Wednesdays. Your Beckum reports that these regular visits are an important part of therapy.

Hiltrud Basche, an experienced motor therapist and vaulting teacher, looks after the children together with the gentle horse Fleur. All children are allowed to try out horse riding and benefit noticeably from the riding therapy, which is a real enrichment for many of them. Fleur's calm nature plays a crucial role in helping the children gain confidence and overcome fears.

The therapeutic effect of horses

The positive effect of riding therapy on children should not be underestimated. So reported Caritas Warendorf that riding therapy has a variety of positive effects. Children with spasticity can relax while working with the horses, while those with loose muscles learn to sit up. The special atmosphere in the riding hall, coupled with the interaction with the animals, significantly promotes the children's general well-being.

The offer not only contributes to physical development, but also helps children to strengthen their social skills and self-confidence. Through activities such as leading, cleaning and feeding the horses, the children experience responsibility and learn new forms of movement that they might not otherwise discover. Trotland emphasizes that curative riding goes beyond pure physical work and has a positive effect on the emotional and psychological development of children.

Integration into daily life

This form of therapy not only takes place weekly, but has also established itself as a valuable experience for both sides, children and therapists. The Teresa Kindergarten has a total of 12 special education places, and the initiative of the Lions Club is of great importance in maintaining this valuable work. Maik Hankemann and Cornelius Bury from the Lions Club delivered the donation personally and were able to see the positive effects of the therapy on site.

Riding therapy is financed through external support and donations, which particularly underlines the importance of such campaigns. The joy of the support is noticeable among the children as well as the kindergarten team and the board of the Caritas association. Riding therapy thus becomes an indispensable pillar in curative education support, which focuses not only on the physical but also the mental well-being of children.
