Hostages demand justice: return all bodies now!

In a tense and emotional climate, a massive rally took place in Tel Aviv today, with former Hamas hostages demanding the return of all the bodies of abductees remaining in the Gaza Strip. Tens of thousands of people gathered, including five surviving hostages, to protest for the return of their missing relatives. Rom Braslavski, a released hostage, put it succinctly: “We will continue to fight for the return of all hostages.” Radiowuppertal reports, that among the bodies requested is that of soldier Hadar Goldin, whose remains were recently found in the Gaza Strip.

Goldin was kidnapped near Rafah by Hamas militants in August 2014 during a ceasefire in the Gaza war, and the exact circumstances of his fate remain unclear. The Israeli army later declared him dead, while Hamas says it discovered Goldin's body. Whether and when she will be transferred to Israel remains a mystery. There are currently five hostage bodies in the Gaza Strip. Radiowuppertal points out that Hamas could potentially use Goldin's remains as leverage to secure the release of imprisoned Hamas fighters.

Current developments in the conflict

The conflict between Israel and Hamas has recently become even more intense. Again Deutschlandfunk According to reports, Hamas recently handed over more hostages to the Red Cross at the Rafah border crossing between the Gaza Strip and Egypt. These are ten Israelis and two foreigners who are now on Israeli territory. There is also a German woman among the released hostages.

This handover marks the fifth group of hostages to be released since last Friday. In return, 30 imprisoned Palestinian prisoners were released. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has once again emphasized that Israel's military goal is to destroy Hamas. He draws a drastic comparison to the denazification in Germany after the Second World War and announces that the Gaza Strip will be demilitarized and de-radicalized after the destruction of Hamas.

Help from the USA

In the midst of this tense situation, the USA announced aid deliveries to the Gaza Strip for the first time. Three military aircraft are said to be traveling with medical supplies, food and winter equipment from the USA. Deutschlandfunk states that these aid shipments will arrive at a critical moment in the humanitarian crisis facing many people in the Gaza Strip.

The situation therefore remains extremely tense. Demands for justice and the return of all hostages are more urgent than ever as military and diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict continue.
