New month, new rules: What applies to travelers and borrowers from November!

In the coming week, many Cologne residents and guests of the city will face some significant changes that will affect both air travel and everyday financial transactions. Particular attention is paid to Ryanair and new credit regulations, which are important for many households.

As of November 12, 2023, Ryanair, Europe's largest airline, will switch completely to digital boarding passes. As the Rhine Palatinate reports, in the future it will be necessary for passengers to use a smartphone to generate their boarding pass via the “myRyanair” app. A good 80% of the approximately 206 million passengers carried by Ryanair every year have already used this digital option.

Financial changes for consumers

From November 20, 2023, new regulations will apply to check small and short-term loans of up to 200 euros. This is necessitated by the EU Consumer Credit Directive, which came into force on October 30, 2023 and aims to protect low-income households from indiscriminate debt. Therefore, credit checks are also necessary with the “Buy Now – Pay Later” model. This measure could help many consumers keep a clearer overview of their finances.

Changes are also expected in another area of consumer rights. On November 18, 2023, reception of public broadcasters in SD quality will no longer be possible on outdated television sets. ARD and ZDF are switching off satellite broadcasting in SD quality, which will leave many users wondering whether they need to invest in a new device or not.

Winter time and new rules in Italy

Meanwhile, helmet requirements for all winter sports enthusiasts will be introduced in Italian ski resorts from November 1, 2023. Anyone who goes on the slopes without a helmet will face fines of between 100 and 150 euros, and their ski pass could also be withdrawn. This safety measure comes to prevent accidents in winter sports and ensure greater safety for all athletes.

In addition, 18-year-olds in Germany are allowed to use their culture pass, which is intended for cultural offerings, until the end of November. After the end of the year, this pass will no longer be valid, which should encourage many young people to continue using it until then.

The pre-Christmas season is also just around the corner! The Christmas market season begins the week before the first Advent, and the markets open their doors between November 20th and 28th. Maybe there will be a new, discounted tariff for music on the markets, which could make it possible to play popular hits. This will certainly lift the mood at the Christmas markets.

In summary, November 2023 will be a month with important innovations for many in Cologne and beyond. Whether traveling with Ryanair or making financial decisions - the next few weeks offer some exciting changes that are worth being informed about.
