Spa culture in the Ahr Valley: Award for Sinzig and Bad Neuenahr!

A delegation from Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler and Sinzig was honored on September 30th with an important award for the “Spa Culture in the Ahr Valley and the Lower Middle Rhine” project. This honor was awarded by the Rhineland-Palatinate Ministry of the Interior and took place as part of the festive context of the KuLaDig-RLP network meeting at Hambach Castle Rhine-Ahr display reported.

The project team consists of committed employees from the city administration as well as volunteer representatives, including members of the Association for the Promotion of Monument Preservation and the Local History Museum in Sinzig e.V. and the Bad Bodendorf Local History Archive. Their goal is to document the spa culture in the region and make it visible for posterity.

Reprocess cultural heritage

A significant part of the project is the digital recording and presentation of spa culture, which is accessible via the KuLaDig portal. The project currently includes around two dozen online articles enriched with historical photos, graphics and videos. The focus is on the description of the important places, actors and buildings that are part of the spa culture.

The initiators of the project are optimistic that the content will be expanded to include multimedia elements in the future. What is particularly pleasing is that many of the spa buildings and facilities in Bad Neuenahr are still preserved, while the traces of spa history are less visible in places like Bad Breisig, Bad Bodendorf, Sinzig or Kripp.

Commitment to the region

The aim of the project is to raise awareness of the importance of the spa industry and to promote the respectful treatment of cultural heritage. The digital offerings can be easily accessed via a free smartphone app, which benefits both locals and visitors.

Since the launch of the “Digital recording and presentation of cultural landscapes in Rhineland-Palatinate (KuLaDig RLP)” initiative in 2019, creative approaches to processing cultural heritage have been at the top of the agenda. As in the mdi.rlp.de As can be read, this project strengthens regional identity and promotes volunteerism, which is of enormous importance for rural communities.

In addition, the work will continue after the official end of the project in order to gain even deeper insights into the spa culture. In a further step, the “KuLaDig-RLP-Campus” will be launched from 2025, which will train the municipal teams in order to anchor the importance of local culture even more firmly.

The research project, which runs until December 2026, aims to systematically record the cultural landscape and develop digital models for digitizing cultural heritage, such as kuladigrlp.net is executed. The aim is to promote identification with local objects and customs.

All of these measures show that there is a lot of potential in the Ahr Valley. The focus on spa culture is not only a homage to the past, but also a strong push for the future - there is definitely something to be achieved!
