Facts Safe for Democracy: New series of events starts today!
Today, October 9, 2025, the starting signal for the event series “FactsSafe for Democracy” will be given. Organized by a team from ARD Media Competence and the adult education center regional associations from Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria and Rhineland-Palatinate, this initiative is offered in around 250 adult education centers in Germany. The aim is to encourage citizens to critically examine issues relating to the media in times of disinformation, populism and hatred online. Ahrweiler district reports that this series serves as a platform for important discussions about reliable information in democracy.
How did public broadcasting contribute to this? The event series is streamed live once every two weeks, every Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Participants can take part from the comfort of their own home and use interactive tools to communicate directly with the speakers. The content not only offers insights into the work of news editors and fact finders, but also positions itself as a useful tool in the fight against fake news.
Invitation to discussion
The adult education centers would like to invite people to form and express their opinions in a self-determined manner. The exchange about the importance and challenges of freedom of expression and freedom of the press is intended to create awareness that is essential for our democracy. The events are not only a source of information, but also a place for dialogue where forces are pooled to combat misinformation. VHS BW highlights how important such initiatives are today.
Registration is easy: Those interested can register at the participating adult education centers or conveniently via the ARD website. This transfer of knowledge and the opportunity to actively participate could be the key to ending disinformation.
A collaborative project
In addition, through this joint project, the adult education centers and public broadcasting make an important contribution to strengthening democracy and promoting freedom of expression and freedom of the press. Press portal reports that this commitment is highly valued by the participants and that it is a valuable opportunity for them to receive first-hand information and exchange ideas with others.
Be there and take advantage of the opportunities this exchange offers. At a time when information is disseminated quickly, it is crucial to take part in such conversations and to be a competent part of democratic society - every individual can make a valuable contribution here.
