First fair daycare center in Wörrstadt: Children learn fairness and sustainability!
The juwelchen daycare center of the JUWI Group in Wörrstadt has achieved it: it is the first fair daycare center in the municipality. This award was presented by Luisa Rothe at the summer festival at the beginning of July and impressively shows the institution's commitment to global fairness and sustainability. Antenna KH reports that the seal is valid until 2028 and was achieved through numerous actions to promote fairness and global thinking.
In the juwelchen daycare center, children learn in a playful way about the origins of foods such as cocoa, bananas and rice, as well as the conditions under which they are produced. Daycare director Katja Runkel emphasizes how important it is to create an awareness of the community world at an early age. The focus is on five central criteria for certification, which include, among other things, fair educational work and the use of fairly traded products.
Values for the future
A major concern of the daycare center is to teach the children values such as justice, sustainability and solidarity. Kita Global explains that the “FaireKITA” project is growing throughout Germany and supports daycare centers in their efforts to integrate global learning and fair trade. There are now numerous accompanying persons and contacts in various federal states who advise and accompany daycare centers on their way to becoming a fair daycare center.
The Faire KiTa concept has more to offer than just labeling facilities. It includes a holistic concept that is integrated into the children's everyday lives. The children experience the diversity of the world through the topic of fair trade and learn to understand the world as one world. At the same time, the respectful approach to diversity is promoted, which is essential for the realities of life in an increasingly globalized society.
Sustainability in everyday life
The commitment of the juwelchen daycare center is not only a pioneering project in the community, but also an active contribution to education for sustainable development (ESD). Global learning highlights that children are trained to make responsible consumer decisions through the use of fair trade products. In this way, they are made aware not only of their own needs, but also of the global context that influences their lives.
With the success of the juwelchen daycare center, a trend could be set. More and more daycare centers in Germany would like to be recognized for their commitment to global learning and fair trade. The values and ideas of the Faire KiTa are not only an exemplary example for Wörrstadt, but could set a precedent throughout the entire region and beyond.
