Forsthaus Krankental” bridge in Lambrecht: closure from July 21st!

From Monday, July 21st, the “Forsthaus Krankental” pedestrian and cycle path bridge near Lambrecht will be closed for a few weeks. This was done by Speyer State Office for Mobility announced. The closure begins at 6 a.m. and is expected to last until August 4th. The reason for this measure is the urgently needed renovation and partial renovation work on the wooden bridge, which was built in 2001.

In the first construction phase, the bridge superstructure will be demolished and the bridge supports will be renovated. Bicycle traffic, which is redirected during this time, leads to the B39 at the junction of the state road and B39 and returns to the cycle path via the first entrance “Neue Maschinen”. Pedestrians are also invited to use the detour.

Traffic regulations and other construction phases

Motorized traffic on the B39 will be regulated by a traffic signal system during construction work. In the second section, the new bridge superstructure, which was produced as a prefabricated part in the factory, will be hoisted into place. A truck crane will be used for this. That's why the B39 will be completely closed in this area for one night; the exact date for this night-time closure will be announced shortly. During this time, there will be no detours for motorized traffic.

The total costs for the renovation work amount to around 170,000 euros, which will be borne by the federal government. Again State Office for Mobility emphasizes, we are grateful for the understanding of residents and road users during this construction period.

Modernization of transport infrastructure

The necessary maintenance and modernization work on bridges in Germany is part of a comprehensive program to improve the transport infrastructure. As in the article from Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport A large number of the bridges were built between 1960 and 1985. This means there is a high need for renovation, especially given the increasing volume of heavy traffic and the age structure of these buildings. This is intended to improve the load-bearing capacity and traffic safety of many older bridges.

This specific case of the “Forsthaus Krankental” walking and cycle path bridge shows once again how important such construction measures are for user-friendliness and safety in our everyday lives. It will be interesting to see how the modernization work progresses and what further steps will follow as part of the program.
