Successful thermal spa in Bad Dürkheim: visitor numbers exceed expectations!
The new thermal baths in Bad Dürkheim are proving to be a real crowd puller just a few days after the official opening on November 21st. Managing director of the Bad Dürkheim municipal utility, Peter Kistenmacher, was pleased about the high number of visitors, currently around 550 per day. The long-term goal of reaching 700 guests daily is therefore within reach. SWR reports that the thermal baths will be open to all visitors on Friday.
The thermal baths border directly on the spa gardens of Bad Dürkheim, which makes it particularly attractive. Particularly noteworthy is the panoramic sauna on the second floor, which offers a breathtaking view of the park. To maintain privacy, a privacy film ensures that sauna goers can enjoy the view outside without being disturbed. A narrow curtain should also serve as an additional privacy screen to ensure more intimacy in critical moments.
Start-up experiences
Although everything is new and exciting, the start-up was not without minor difficulties. Kistenmacher said that there were technical problems, such as the cover of the thermal pool, which could not be closed at times. The pay station also failed and the fire alarm system caused a false alarm. Nevertheless, the experiences remain consistently positive, which exceeds the municipal utilities' expectations.
The thermal baths are a true leisure center and not only offer a leisure pool with indoor and outdoor areas, but also various saunas and a thermal pool with indoor and outdoor areas. Visitors can look forward to five different saunas: a relaxation sauna at 65 degrees, a forest sauna at 80 degrees and the aforementioned panoramic sauna at 90 degrees. This diversity appeals to wellness lovers in the region and ensures that the thermal spa is very popular.
A look into history
The idea to renew the thermal baths goes back to the 1990s. The city council approved the new building in 2016, and construction work began in 2021. The costs were originally estimated at 16 million euros, but these ultimately rose to 50 million euros. An impressive investment that now appears to be paying off.
The thermal baths are not only valued in Bad Dürkheim. The Therme Group, which was founded in Austria in 2011, is constantly expanding internationally and only consolidated its position in Europe in 2024 with the takeover of Therme Erding - the world's largest indoor wellness center. The Wikipedia page about the Therme Group emphasizes that the operation of large thermal baths is now also in focus beyond the Alps.
These developments show that the demand for wellness and leisure activities is increasing and that the Bad Dürkheim Therme is working at a promising location for the future. This could indicate a prosperous time for the region.
