Fire brigade exercise in Bad Dürkheim: Sauna guests rescued in an emergency!

On Thursday evening, November 27th, 2025, the Bad Dürkheim fire department carried out an extensive exercise in the Salinarium Bad Dürkheim Therme. The aim of the exercise was to test and further develop the deployment and evacuation concept in a realistic environment. The event started at 7 p.m. and lasted about two hours. Around 40 fire departments with ten vehicles were on site, supported by the Wachenheim fire department and the Haßloch fire department, which provided a total of 18 emergency services and vehicles.

The scenario was quite dramatic: a fire was simulated in the bar and kitchen area of the sauna on the second floor. In order to make the situation as realistic as possible, artificial smoke and the triggering of the fire alarm system were used. As part of the exercise, two employees were also believed to be seriously injured and missing in the basement area. More than 50 extras took on the role of injured “spa guests,” making the exercise seem lively and authentic. After the exercise, the fire department determined that no dangerous situations could be identified. The relevant processes have been tested successfully, as Bad Dürkheim reports.

Commitment and teamwork

“The exercise strengthens the interaction between the various units and provides valuable information on how to optimize operational processes,” said the city of Bad Dürkheim, drawing a positive conclusion. Mayor Natalie Bauernschmitt praised the commitment of everyone involved, while Alderman Claudius Güther emphasized the importance of volunteer work and invited active participation.

Fire drills are not only crucial for the safety of citizens, but also promote teamwork among emergency services. Targeted exercises like these improve safety and effectiveness by simulating challenges in a protected setting. Effective communication and trust within the team are of great importance here. These exercises provide the opportunity to train technical skills, improve response times and train crisis management, as explained on Examples of Fire Department Exercises.

Impressions and outlook

The numerous extras who took part in the exercise were able to experience the measures up close and were impressed by the professionalism of the emergency services. Photos and videos from the event were released to give the public an insight into the important work of the fire department. After the exercise was successfully completed, regular thermal bath operations could be resumed, which is further proof for everyone involved of the effectiveness and thorough implementation of this important measure.

This fire drill highlights how necessary such preventative measures are in order to be optimally prepared in an emergency. The city of Bad Dürkheim is sending a clear signal for safety and community.”
