Welcome, little citizens: Bad Dürkheim celebrates newborns!
On June 14, 2025, the second newborn reception took place in Bad Dürkheim, a warm event for families whose children were born in 2024 or 2025. Around 15 families accepted the invitation to the municipal daycare center “Haus für Kinder” in Wellsring, where a colorful supporting program awaited the young and old guests. Angela Strobel, head of the social affairs department, welcomed everyone present and emphasized the importance of this event for families in the region. “We want to promote exchange and encounters,” she explained.
A highlight of the reception was the extensive participation program. The Bad Dürkheim music school presented musical activities under the motto “Kükenmusik” and there was the opportunity to try out different instruments. A cozy reading corner in the city library was set up for the little bookworms, who read exciting stories from children's books. The Salinarium also provided information about the benefits of baby swimming. The city administration was on site and answered questions about childcare, while tours of the daycare center rooms were offered. Mayor Natalie Bauernschmitt described the event as an important signal for the community.
Early help in the Bad Dürkheim district
In the context of early support for parents, the “Early Help” initiative should be mentioned, which is central from pregnancy until the child is three years old. These programs provide valuable support and promotion of the parent-child relationship and help families who are struggling with excessive demands or emotional insecurity. Fathers and mothers receive advice on the care and nutrition of their children, support with regulatory disorders and valuable information on the health and development of their little ones. In addition, individual information options about help and advice centers are provided.
It is a great step that the Bad Dürkheim district not only offers early support, but also creates networks that enable parents to recognize and use their own resources. This is particularly important to give children a good start in life and to support them optimally. The Federal Foundation for Early Help plays an important role in this by supporting families in difficult situations and ensuring that they grow up healthy and free of violence. A total of 51 million euros are made available every year to promote networks and psychosocial support.
Highlight of the support systems
A notable offering is preventive measures such as weekly parent-teacher consultations at the Grünstadt district hospital. There, specialists are available to help parents with questions about development and everyday family life. The postpartum clinic also offers support for parents without a follow-up midwife and there is a parent visitation service that provides practical help through volunteers.
With all of these initiatives, those responsible want to ensure that families in Bad Dürkheim are not alone and find support even in turbulent times. The newborn receptions and the diverse early help services are steps in the right direction to offer children and parents a safe and secure environment.
