Laurentiuskerwe in Gimmeldingen: Celebrate the village festival with us!

Next weekend, more precisely on August 16th and 17th, the Laurentiuskerwe will be celebrated again in Gimmeldingen. This tradition has become an integral part of village life in recent years, and it is time for the residents to return to their roots. Mayor Jens Wacker has campaigned vigorously for the revival of the Kerwe since he took office. “It’s about strengthening the community and creating festive togetherness,” emphasizes Wacker.

The festivities begin on Saturday at 4 p.m. on the church square, which will be appropriately equipped with beer tent sets. Interested guests are invited to bring plates, cutlery, glasses and white tablecloths to make the celebration more comfortable. A very special highlight is the grill station, where everyone can prepare the grilled food they brought with them, while in the background a diverse entertainment program is offered in front of the sea spinning hall.

A celebration for young and old

Particular attention is also paid to the open painting wall of the Gimmeldingen artist network: the villagers can draw their favorite motif from Gimmeldingen until Friday. The best images will be exhibited, and the image that receives the most votes will even be chosen as the motif for a glass for the 2026 Almond Blossom Festival. The excitement is rising: the winner's selection will take place on Saturday evening, a highlight that many are eagerly awaiting.

But that's not enough! On Sunday, the second day of the Kerwe starts at 10 a.m. with a festive service in the church, which is accompanied by a trumpet choir. There is a real treat for all gourmets at 12 p.m. with a traditional spit roast dinner in the vicarage. A games program for younger children will be offered from 1 p.m., and those interested can take part in a church tour at 3 p.m.

The roots of the Kerwe

What many people don't know: The term "Kerwe" comes from the medieval word "Kirchweih", which means a religious fair or festival. These festivals are part of Rhineland-Palatinate culture and usually take place in August. A highlight of the celebrations is the ostrich youth, who lovingly care for and protect the so-called “Kerwestrauss”. So the Kerwe is not just a festival, but also a celebration of the good things of the past year and an opportunity to get together with neighbors.

A little historical review: On February 23, 2025, the new Almond Blossom Highnesses were crowned in Gimmeldingen. Here, Dr. Matthias Frey, the chairman of the transport and beautification association, never tires of thanking the outgoing almond blossom queen Erva Satun for her commitment. The new Highnesses, Maja Nett and Princess Lucy Krell, are already looking forward to the upcoming Almond Blossom Festival and the numerous appointments with other wine Highnesses that will follow. There will also be a limited edition of Dubbe glasses, the sales surplus of which will benefit a social cause in Gimmeldingen.

So for the locals and all visitors it’s time to go to the Laurentiuskerwe! Whether barbecuing together, experiencing art or simply socializing – these holidays offer a lot of opportunities to celebrate togetherness. Gather your supplies and be part of this colorful celebration!
