Cup drama in Wittlich: Trier wins at the last second!

On October 7th, the eagerly awaited Rhineland Cup game between Rot-Weiß Wittlich and Eintracht Trier took place in the Wittlich sports center. For the local football community, it was the highlight of an exciting evening that captivated around 2,200 spectators, including numerous children and young people. Despite the large backdrop and the exciting atmosphere, from the police perspective the game was calm and without any special incidents. The Wittlich police station praised the good cooperation with the organizers and those responsible for the teams.

The match, which started at 7:30 p.m., was intense and hard-fought from the start. Rot-Weiß Wittlich, which started the race as a Rhineland league team, faced regional league team Eintracht Trier with determination. The first half ended goalless 0-0, with both teams only able to create a few real chances to score. A dangerous shot from Schmitz in the 10th minute was particularly noticeable.

Tension until the last second

The second half was also exciting, with Wittlich continuing to be well organized defensively and able to create some dangerous situations, such as through Rizvani in the 69th minute. But the Trier team increased the pressure and showed more possession of the ball. In the final phase, when the game was already in the balance, there was great drama: In the 91st minute, Weigelt gave Eintracht Trier the lead. Just a few minutes later, in the 98th minute, Kinscher made the final score 2-0 with another goal after Held provided him with the assist. The spectators watched the action breathlessly as a tear in the goal net caused additional delays in the game, which further fueled the thrill.

After the final whistle, the Wittlich team sank to the ground exhausted. The spectators, who had cheered until the last minute, rewarded the players with applause for their fighting spirit and their performance. Despite the bitter end in the cup, there was a positive benefit to the joy of the supporters: Eintracht Trier moved into the fourth round of the Rhineland Cup.

Optimal organization despite the waiting time

However, the police exits of fans after the game were not without their challenges. Due to traffic congestion there were slightly longer waiting times. This once again showed how important good organization was in advance, which enabled the security forces to ensure a peaceful environment. The police expressly thanked all the institutions and teams involved for their excellent cooperation, which contributed to a smooth process.
