Backfischfest Worms: Celebrate tradition & wine from August 30th to September 7th!
The Worms Backfischfest is fast approaching! From August 30th to September 7th, 2025, the festival site on the Rhine will be transformed into a contact point for everyone who wants to experience a combination of tradition and modern fun. Launched back in 1933, this festival has developed into a real highlight for the region and attracts not only locals but also guests from the surrounding area. On August 30th, the festival will open at 3:15 p.m. with a ceremonial handover to the “Bojemääschter vun de Fischerwääd” on the Worms market square. A special guest will be Prime Minister Alexander Schweitzer, who will accompany the event.
The anticipation is great: the wine bar will open in the Wonnegau wine cellar from 5 p.m., followed by a tapping of draft beer in the festival tent at 6:30 p.m. More than 400 different wines await visitors here, inviting them to get to know the diversity of the region. Another highlight is the “Hagens Weinschatz” wine festival event on Monday evening, which is already generating great anticipation. And for all wine lovers who decided on a wine tasting in the Ferris wheel in time, it is already fully booked!
A colorful program for young and old
How about an exciting parade? This will take place on Sunday, August 31st, from 2 p.m. and promises a dazzling spectacle with around 90 groups. Another highlight for the younger ones are the Children's Olympics and the lantern parade, which will take place on September 5th. A special event will also be the fishing jousting on Sunday, September 7th, which will take place in the raft harbor from 2:30 p.m. And to top it all off, there will be an impressive fireworks display at 9 p.m. that lights up the night sky.
For everyone who likes it a little spookier, there is something new at the fair this year: the ghost train “Journey to Hell 2.0” will provide additional thrills. In addition to these exciting attractions, atmospheric evenings in the festival tent and in the wine cellar with DJs are also planned, guaranteeing visitors an unforgettable time.
Opening times and entrance fees
The festival is open daily from 2 p.m. to 2 a.m., with the gates opening at 12 p.m. on Sundays. Admission is free, so everyone has the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the Backfischfest without having to dig deeper into their pockets. If you would like more information about the festival or a detailed program flyer, you can find all the details on the festival's official website.
