Extreme storm in Rhineland-Palatinate: There is a risk of continuous rain and flooding!
On Tuesday evening, September 23rd, 2025, a violent weather phenomenon is expected in Rhineland-Palatinate. Experts expect heavy, continuous rain to hit the region. As the daily news reported, the forecasts are alarming. Extreme rainfall is expected in some areas, which could locally amount to up to 90 liters per square meter. For comparison: In Mannheim, an average of only 53.5 liters falls throughout September.
The German Weather Service (DWD) warns of possible storms that could not only bring intense rainfall, but also local flooding and full basements. Although more detailed information about the affected areas is still unclear, the risk of flooding and landslides is real. An area from the Palatinate to the north of Baden-Württemberg will be particularly affected.
Intense heavy rain warnings
On the platform Severe Weather Center The heavy rain warnings for Germany are well prepared. The clear graphic illustrates areas affected by prolonged and heavy rain. The warnings are divided into different levels: from advance warnings, which indicate the possibility of heavy rainfall, to acute warnings, which are issued 1 to 12 hours before the start of an impending heavy rain. There are three warning levels - depending on how much rain is expected.
The meteorological experts at the severe weather center continually adapt the warnings and always keep them up to date. This is particularly important for sectors such as construction, agriculture, transport service providers, insurance companies and event organizers that have to adapt to changing weather conditions.
