Cologne signs Krauss: loan deals with purchase option to stay in the league!
1. FC Köln officially announced the signing of Tom Krauß today. The 23-year-old midfielder is coming from 1. FSV Mainz 05 on loan until the end of the season. How Transfer market reported, a purchase option will be activated after the loan if FC secures relegation and Krauss has a certain number of appearances.
The negotiations surrounding the move were apparently successful, as the purchase price for Krauß is between 3.5 and 4 million euros. Sports director Niko Bungert confirmed that the player had a desire to join FC. Krauss, who has previously been on loan for Luton Town and VfL Bochum, is looking for a sporting home and stability.
A newcomer with experience
The new signing has the opportunity to use experience from a total of 76 Bundesliga games at FC, after only appearing sporadically at FSV Mainz. Krauß was signed by Mainz in 2023 for 5 million euros, but was unable to assert himself there. "The discussions with the club and those responsible were very positive. I feel welcome," explained Krauss in an initial statement.
With Krauß, 1. FC Köln has already signed its fourth new signing in this transfer period, after Jakub Kaminski, Ragnar Ache and Ísak Jóhannesson. “Krauß is another important option for our central midfield,” says FC sporting director Thomas Kessler, emphasizing the player’s importance for the coming season. The announcement of the commitment took place on Saturday evening, which caused joy among FC fans.
Jakub Kaminski's loan from Wolfsburg also became official yesterday, which underlines FC's new additions. Tom Krauß is optimistic: “I’m looking forward to working with the team and experiencing the support of the club and coach.”
Whether Krauss can establish himself in Cologne remains to be seen, but given his potential and his previous experience in the Bundesliga, there is reason to be hopeful. Those responsible at 1. FC Köln are also aware of this - a step that could certainly strengthen the team.
