Lohnweiler remains without a train stop: construction work is delayed!

The situation for travelers remains tense at the Lohnweiler stop. The trains on the Lautertalbahn are currently running as scheduled, but the Lohnweiler stop is still excluded. The reason for this is ongoing construction work, which was originally supposed to be completed at the end of the summer holidays. However, progress is anything but according to plan Rhine Palatinate reported.

Intensive work is going on at the station, but apparently the schedule cannot be kept. According to the latest estimates, instead of the originally planned completion date of October 24th, the date has been postponed to November 7th at 6 p.m. According to information, this delay only became known after a request from the Rhineland-Palatinate South Public Transport Association.

Rail replacement service in force

Until the work is completed, passengers from Lohnweiler to Kaiserslautern must first take the bus to Lauterecken and change to the trains there. On the way back it's not much different: travelers also first have to go to Lauterecken and then change to the replacement rail service to Lohnweiler. The association has already commissioned a shuttle bus to ensure a connection , according to Nachrichten-KL.

The extended work not only includes the necessary repairs, but also a barrier-free expansion of the stop. Thanks to these efforts, Lohnweiler is expected to make trains easier for all travelers, including people with disabilities, after the renovation is complete. This measure is seen as important for the future of public transport in the Kusel district.

Insight into the construction work

DB InfraGO is carrying out the work, but also sees challenges elsewhere. There is currently an unstable subsurface situation on the Lautertalbahn in Katzweiler, which also requires the route to be closed. These problems extend construction time and cause additional inconvenience for commuters and travelers , as the local news reports.

In the long term, however, the project will help to significantly improve the train stations and stops in the Kusel district through modernized platforms and better connections. With a price of 55 cm from the top of the rail, accessibility is achieved and further developments promise that modern railcars such as the Stadler Flirt, which will be used from December 2026, will continue to be used in the future.

Although the construction work poses difficulties for the time being, it adds to the larger picture of advanced transport and infrastructure in the district, which will benefit commuters and visitors in the future.
