An exciting innovation in the field of medical training will start in Kaiserslautern in the winter semester of 2025. From autumn onwards, the first students will be able to start studying at the newly founded Medical School Kaiserslautern, which is collaborating with the renowned Semmelweis University in Budapest. How SWR reports, the new offer has already aroused great interest. Managing director Thorsten Hemmer from the Westpfalz-Klinikum states that all 40 available study places have already been filled. This speaks volumes about the attractiveness of this offer, which is aimed not only at the local population but also at applicants from all over Germany and German-speaking countries.
The students will spend the first three years in Budapest and the remaining three years in Kaiserslautern. This enables practical and diverse medical training that optimally prepares you for the current requirements in the healthcare system. The course is offered in German and is intended to offer students a well-founded education that takes into account the special features of the German healthcare system. The aim is to keep graduates in the West Palatinate region in order to counteract the shortage of doctors, which is particularly noticeable in rural areas.
The challenges and perspectives in German medical studies
