Speeders on the A63: Police stop illegal racing and violations!
How often have we heard about the roaring engines of speeders on the highways? On Sunday, June 19, 2025, the Kaiserslautern police motorway station, together with the West Palatinate Central Transport Services, examined traffic on the motorway in a construction area with a speed limit of 100 km/h. The results are alarming: several drivers were suspected of speeding, including a 32-year-old driver who was a whopping 45 mph too fast. This shows that the topic of racing and illegal street racing is very popular again, as is also reported on atp-autoteile.de.
In addition, there were also several pushers who harassed and slowed down other road users. In one concerning incident, an arrest warrant was executed against a vehicle driver, illustrating the urgency of the problem. The situation became even more precarious when a total of four cars were involved in an illegal street race on Autobahn 63. According to initial information, three of these vehicles were visible in the area of the Kaiserslautern motorway triangle, while the Kaiserslautern military police took action against the speeders and had their driving licenses revoked.
Speeders as a challenge to safety
There is a worrying increase in illegal street racing and speeding accidents in Germany. The law has become stricter in recent years to counteract this trend. According to a survey from 2009, 38% of those surveyed perceive speeders and jostling as significant disruptive factors in road traffic. It is noteworthy that a 2020 study found that 88% of respondents consider excessive speed to be the most common cause of accidents in Germany.
The dangers posed by speeders should not be underestimated. They pose a significant threat to pedestrians and cyclists, especially in urban areas. A tragic example is the fatal accident involving a speeder in Wiesbaden, which resulted in a six-year prison sentence. The existing laws, such as Section 315d of the Criminal Code, make it possible to clearly punish such acts. Penalties can range from fines to two years in prison.
Penalties and consequences for speeders
What happens if you get caught speeding? In addition to high fines, there are often civil consequences. The victims of such races are entitled to compensation, but in practice this is often a difficult road. Driving licenses are also often revoked, at least for six months. In particularly serious cases, such as endangering people, the punishment can be up to ten years in prison. Those who ultimately end up among the losers in such a frenzy are often not just the speeders themselves, but also those who are not involved.
In addition, a medical-psychological examination (MPU) can be ordered to check fitness to drive. Such studies are crucial to show that responsibility in road traffic is taken seriously. It is advisable to prepare diligently for an MPU in order to increase the chances of getting your driving license back.
In summary, the situation on Autobahn 63 and the measures taken by the police clearly show that speeders and illegal street racing represent a serious problem that should not be ignored. While authorities increasingly work to root out these offenders, the threat to road safety remains an ongoing challenge.
