Cars scratched at Ohmbachsee – police are looking for witnesses!

Late on Saturday evening, more precisely between 1:50 and 3:20 a.m., an unpleasant incident occurred during the Ohmbachsee Festival in Schönenberg-Kübelberg: at least two cars were vandalized. The crime scene was on the access road to the camping park at Ohmbachsee. The affected vehicles were a silver and a black BMW, both of which sustained severe damage to the passenger side, driver's side and hood, reports the Weekly newspaper reporter.

Overall, the festival visitors behaved appropriately and remained unimpressed by the incident. The police were asked for information because the perpetrator or perpetrators are still unknown. Anyone who has seen something or has information is asked to contact the Schönenberg-Kübelberg police station on 0631 - 369-14799 or the Kusel police station on 0631 - 369-14499. Crime in general

The incident sheds light on the general development of crime in Germany. According to police crime statistics, the number of crimes fell by 1.7% in 2024 compared to the previous year to around 5.84 million. One reason for this was the partial legalization of cannabis from April 2024, which led to a decrease in the number of corresponding crimes. Nevertheless, there is an increase in crimes that affect people's sense of security, such as property damage, as we have now seen in Schönenberg-Kübelberg, according to analyzes by Statista.

It is important to mention that not all crimes are recorded in the PKS, since, for example, different types of crimes are reported at different frequencies depending on the region and reporting behavior. The frequency of property damage is an example of a crime that often remains unreported. The clearance rate was 58% in 2024, which is slightly below the previous year's figure. However, it remains essential that citizens remain vigilant and report anything suspicious, especially in a casual setting such as a festival.
