First project day Jewish Life in Kusel” invites citizens to participate!
This will load on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 Siebenpfeiffer High School in Kusel for the exciting project day “Jewish Life in Kusel”. For the first time, not only school students but also interested adults from the region are allowed to take part. This day, which has long been a compulsory program for the school's ninth graders, is part of a nationwide event and offers the opportunity to engage more intensively with Jewish history and culture.
This project day is intended for all grades of the school as well as for citizens from Kusel and the surrounding area. The topic of “Jewish life in Kusel” is particularly important, with the importance of the culture of remembrance also being emphasized. This is where the Stolpersteine come into play, which were laid around the city as memorials and give a face to the victims of National Socialism. The stumbling blocks will also be the focus of a morning program.
Program flow and registration
The morning program begins with a holistic introduction to the topic, followed by a stimulating tour of the stumbling blocks. The fates of the affected Jewish families are explained, which enables an in-depth examination of the past. In the evening there will be a lecture by Torben Burkart entitled “Eloquent silence on the ‘Jewish question’?”, the location of which will be announced later.
Participants have various options for getting involved on this day:
- (a) Gesamter Vormittag inkl. Erarbeitung und Rundgang
- (b) Nur Rundgang
- (c) Teilnahme am Vortrag
To register, which must be completed by January 21, 2026, interested parties can register directly via the Siebenpfeiffer-Gymnasium secretariat on 06381/92300. The first and last name as well as the selected participation option are required.
Background and social context
In Germany, there is currently greater focus on the culture of remembrance because the topic of anti-Semitism has unfortunately become more explosive again. After Hamas' attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, the social mood regarding Jewish life has changed noticeably. In fact, the year 2022 recorded loud pablish.uni-passau.de a new high with 6,236 anti-Semitic crimes. This increase is a cause for concern and highlights the need to keep the culture of remembrance alive.
This makes events like the project day in Kusel all the more important, where participants have the opportunity to deal with the challenges and the reality of life for Jewish people in Germany. With dialogue and open discussion, a better understanding can perhaps emerge and anti-Semitism can be curbed in the long term.
The Siebenpfeiffer High School With this project day, in Kusel not only provides a platform for its own student body, but also for all citizens to build together on a common culture of remembrance.
