450 young police officers are sworn in in Speyer – be there!
On Friday, August 29th, the Cathedral Square in Speyer will be the scene of a special event. As the Rheinpfalz reports, the big defense ceremony of the Rhineland-Palatinate Police University will take place there. Around 450 aspiring police officers will be sworn in at a ceremonial event and will take their vow of loyalty to the constitution. The ceremony begins with the police officers arriving together from the northern cathedral garden at 11:10 a.m., followed by the swearing-in ceremony on cathedral square at 11:20 a.m.
Numerous guests of honor are expected in the run-up to the ceremony, including Prime Minister Alexander Schweitzer and Interior Minister Michael Ebling. The public is cordially invited to take part in this important day. Following the swearing-in ceremony, there will be a concert and participants can look forward to a delicious stew meal in the cathedral garden.
Traffic restrictions and organization
For the entire event, Cathedral Square will be closed to motor vehicles and cyclists from 10:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. During this time, access from Stuhlbrudergasse and Tränkgasse is only permitted in the direction of the cathedral parking lot. Parking spaces at the cathedral car park and in Stuhlbrudergasse are also not available, and traffic from Industriestrasse will be redirected via Kleine Pfaffengasse until around 1:30 p.m. Bus route 561 will also be rerouted from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., with the one-way system on Große Himmelsgasse between Pfaugasse and Domplatz temporarily even being lifted.
A look at police work
This ceremony marks the start of service for the new police officers, who will take up their duties in October 2024 and May 2025. Such events are important not only for the aspiring police officers, but also for the community, which feels more connected to the police through the celebrations.
An interesting proactive element in police work is the use of modern aircraft. The AgustaWestland AW139, a versatile and valued helicopter, is used in many areas of operation, including police operations. Known for its reliability, this model is available in various registrations such as 6V-HAD and 9G-HAB.
This technology contributes to operational efficiency and security in our region. The combination of traditional policing, as highlighted at the swearing-in ceremony, and modern means reflects the progress and adaptability that is so important to policing today.
So stay tuned for August 29th and take the opportunity to experience this important moment in the history of the Rhineland-Palatinate police. The celebratory sounds and atmosphere will certainly provide an unforgettable experience for everyone involved.
