Edenkoben modernized: IT expansion and new payment card decided!
On July 3, 2025, the Edenkoben municipal council met for what was now its fifth meeting, at which some important decisions were made. Among other things, the annual financial statements for 2022 were approved and the discharge for the 2022 financial year was unanimously approved. The annual surplus of 580,775 euros, which can be invested in future projects, is particularly pleasing. The relief affects, among others, the former mayor Olaf Gouasé and the incumbent mayor Daniel Salm, who was also authorized to award the contract for the introduction of Microsoft 365 (M365) to modernize the IT infrastructure.
The decision to introduce Microsoft 365 is not only a response to the increasingly digital requirements of administration, but also an important step towards greater security in IT. After all, public administrations are increasingly exposed to threats from cyber attacks these days. This requires a robust digital infrastructure, as highlighted in the National Center for Biotechnology Information.
Investments in the future
But that wasn't all the council decided. Another important point was the unanimous approval to award contracts for the expansion of the Edesheim elementary school all-day school. Investments are not only made in education, but also in safety: the procurement of a fire engine (LF) 10 for the Edesheim fire department and two portable fire pump vehicles (TSF-W) for Böbingen and Kleinfischlingen have also been initiated. The total costs for the LF 10 amount to over 595,000 euros, with subsidies from the state amounting to 75,000 euros being made available.
In relation to the TSF-W, the chassis cost 136,017 euros and the entire load adds up to a total of around 570,000 euros. These investments are essential for the operational capability of the local fire department and contribute to protecting the population.
Digital advances and social responsibility
Another highlight of the meeting was the approval of a public contract for gigabit expansion in the Südliche Weinstrasse district. This is an important step towards better digital connectivity - a necessity that has proven crucial not only during the pandemic but beyond. It was also decided to join the cooperation agreement for the newly structured basic hiking trail network in the Palatinate Forest, the costs of which amount to around 2 million euros, with 75% of this being covered by state funding.
A forward-looking decision was the introduction of a payment card in accordance with the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act, which is to be fleshed out by forming a working group. A further step towards security is the procurement of mobile access protection elements as part of inter-municipal cooperation with the aim of making events safer.
In conclusion, it can be said that the Edenkoben municipal council is setting an important course for the future with these resolutions. It remains to be hoped that citizens will continue to strengthen their trust in digital services in order to fully exploit the many advantages of digitalization. Ultimately, despite all the advances, it is important to continue to maintain personal contact and human familiarity while at the same time advancing technological development.
