Dreihof roundabout near Essingen reopened – a relief for commuters!
The good news for commuters and residents in the region: The roundabout at the Dreihof golf course near Essingen has been reopened to traffic. This was announced by the State Office for Mobility (LBM). Construction was completed ahead of schedule and the lockdown, which had been in place since the end of October, was lifted on Friday 5 December. This means that commuters between Offenbach, Bornheim, Landau and the B272 can finally use the usual route again.
In recent weeks, road users have had to accept a detour through the Bornheim industrial area. These diversions were necessary to cope with the additional diversion traffic during the full closure of the roundabout. From October 20th until probably October 25th, shoulders on the K 42 were also repaired, which also made it necessary to adjust the traffic routing. Detour signs showed the way back to the K 42 and K 43 via the streets “In der Windblase”, “In der Viehweide” and “Bruchwiesenstraße”.
Construction work and costs
The total construction costs for the renovation measures amount to around 300,000 euros. This investment in infrastructure plays a central role in improving traffic flow in the region. According to those responsible, various work was coordinated around the Dreihof in order to keep the impact of the closure on the citizens as low as possible. The LBM asked drivers to understand the traffic disruptions during the construction period.
Another aspect that is present in the current discussion about transport projects concerns the financing architecture of infrastructure projects. Transport Minister Patrick Schnieder recently approved 23 ready-to-build projects on the federal highway network. This shows how important a continuous investment strategy is for maintaining and modernizing our transport facilities. It is hoped that such measures can create planning security for construction companies and clients in order to avoid expensive interruptions.
The opening of the roundabout is a step in the right direction to relieve the regions affected by traffic delays and promote mobility. However, it remains to be seen how the necessary finances and planning for future projects can be secured. A reliable timetable that also takes the needs of commuters into account is crucial here.
