Landau shows the flag: poster campaign against violence against women started!
International Day Against Violence Against Women will be celebrated worldwide on November 25, 2025. On the occasion of this important day of remembrance, the city of Landau is sending a strong message with a poster campaign that will be on display in the city center from November 25th to December 10th. This campaign aims to raise public awareness of the problem of violence against women and to encourage the women affected. Over 40 women from Landau, many of them with personal experiences of violence, took part in the campaign. The impressive portrait photos that show the faces of these women were taken by photographer Eva Korn. The posters will be visible in central locations and in shop windows to create a wide space for the topic. Contact persons for affected women can be reached at the email address egalstellungsstelle@landau.de or by telephone at 06341 131080. The Rheinpfalz has covered more about this in an article.
But what does today actually mean? The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is not only an impetus for reflection on individual fates, but also highlights the responsibility of society as a whole to take action against violence. Because this violence is well anchored in the structures of our society. The forms of violence that affect women and girls are diverse: from psychological and economic violence to femicide. According to the federal situation report “Gender-specific crimes against women in 2024”, the numbers of female victims have increased in almost all crime groups. What is needed here is the commitment of men to sustainable masculinity that focuses on taking responsibility and equality. Gender-reflected work with boys and men is also highlighted as an active contribution to violence prevention, according to the Federal Men's Forum.
16 days against violence against women
The day of action marks the start of the 16 days against violence against women, which lasts until December 10th. During this time, particular attention is drawn to the human rights violation that violence against women represents. Last but not least, the initiative commemorates the Mirabal sisters, who were murdered in the Dominican Republic on November 25, 1960. This historic event marks the beginning of a global commemoration that is now supported by more than 6,000 organizations in 187 countries. In the coming year, the focus will be on the campaign “Every 10 Minutes, a woman is killed.#NoExcuse”, so that clear accents against violence should also be set in 2025.
But how can we all do our part? It is crucial to show solidarity with acts of violence against women and to work together for helping structures. The UN campaign “Orange the World” will also focus on violence in public this year, shedding additional light on an important issue. Ambassadors like Hadnet Tesfai and Moritz Neumeier play a central role here.
If we hold society as a whole accountable, we can achieve a lot. Violence against women affects us all – not just those affected, but the entire community. That's why it's time for men to take responsibility and actively participate in equality work, according to the Federal Men's Forum.
Let's take a visible stand against violence and support those who need help. We have the opportunity to promote a culture of respect and equality and to act as allies in society.
