Federal Garden Show 2029: Bring your citizen project to the valley!

Exciting times lie ahead in the Upper Middle Rhine Valley region as preparations for the... Federal Garden Show 2029 are running at full speed. The Federal Horticultural Show Upper Middle Rhine Valley 2029 gGmbH has set itself the task of promoting local citizen projects. These initiatives aim to improve inner-city open spaces, improve the climate and strengthen coexistence in the region.

“There is something there,” says managing director Sven Stimac, and he emphasizes how important civic engagement is for the sustainable development of the region. Currently, three citizens' projects in Rhens, Dörscheid and Lorch have already successfully seen the light of day. Ten projects are planned for BUGA 2029, for which BUGA29 will provide up to 20,000 euros in start-up funding!

Design of citizen projects

What exactly do these projects entail? Plans include, among other things, the greening of squares, the unsealing of areas, art in public spaces and the renaturation of streams. This not only looks good, but also protects the environment. Anyone who would like to launch a project themselves can submit their application by January 15, 2026. Of course, professional support is also offered.

The citizens' project in the municipality of Kamp-Bornhofen is particularly exciting. There is one here together with the Bornhofen Monastery Rosenweg planned from the train station to the monastery. Father Eryk has big ideas for the planned “Year of the Rose” in the monastery, including an event that puts the magic of roses in the spotlight. The first rose sponsors have already arrived, but more helpers are welcome!

Diverse ideas in Rüdesheim

In Rüdesheim am Rhein they are also working on great projects for BUGA 2029. The Preparations have already started at the beginning of 2020, with a BUGA commission that is working diligently on coming up with ideas. Possible projects include, among other things, the expansion of the towpath and the design of the area at the Rheinhalle.

Another highlight is the planned suspension bridge in Assmannshausen, which will delight with a summer toboggan run and a new leisure concept. A circular route for cyclists and pedestrians is also being worked on, which will offer attractions such as an “Instagram Museum” and a picturesque view of the surrounding area.

Citizens are invited to actively participate in workshops and contribute their ideas before the architectural competitions take place. It becomes very clear: This is not just about a garden show, but about a community festival for everyone!

Time is short, but the possibilities are promising. BUGA 2029 could be a real highlight for the region – if everyone works together and realizes their ideas. Further information about the projects and applications can be found on the BUGA website.
