Hunters demonstrate in Mainz: For strong wildlife management!

In a few days, on June 25, 2025, there will be a great demonstration in Mainz under the motto “Who will do it if not us?” could cause a stir. Around 5,000 participants from all over Germany have registered to draw attention to the challenges and requirements of hunting and wildlife policy. This movement is supported by a broad alliance, including officials and members of German hunting associations, hunting dog associations as well as conservationists and interested citizens. A strong signal of solidarity and commitment to nature and wildlife management is sent here. WildundHund reports on the central demand of the participants: The hunters should not be relegated to being pest controllers.

One concern that is vehemently represented in Mainz is the demand for a practical law for balanced and sustainable wildlife management. Dr. Sarah Wirtz from LJV Rhineland-Palatinate makes it clear: “Hunting is important for biodiversity and habitats.” Despite these complex perspectives, from the perspective of the demonstrators, the current third draft of the amendment to the hunting law looks like a frontal attack on the German hunting industry. So the mood is tense and the hunters expect a clear stance from politicians.

Political responsibility and dialogue

The participants are calling for a rethinking of hunting legislation and are relying on a dialogue that meets the needs of nature, animals and people. The criticism of the authority, which prescribes higher kills, is loud and understandable. Sound wildlife management is not only in the interests of hunters, but also in the interests of society as a whole.

The location of the event will be the banks of the Rhine in Mainz. The start is planned for 9 a.m. and will certainly mobilize many people who are committed to respectful coexistence between humans and animals. It will be exciting to see how the political leaders position themselves on the concerns expressed. The engagement of these demonstrators could significantly set the tone for future discussions about hunting and wildlife policy.

About the organizers

The organization of the demonstration is the responsibility of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Hunting Association, which is represented by President Dieter Mahr and Vice Presidents Gundolf Bartmann, Kurt Student and Thomas Weber, among others, for data processing. Anyone interested can contact the association using the contact details provided below to obtain further information about the concerns mentioned several times. LJV Rheinland-Pfalz makes it clear that cooperation with conservationists and the population is also crucial for environmentally friendly wildlife management.

Hunting is a sensitive topic that could come into focus in this demonstration. It remains to be hoped that the participants' demands will be heard and contribute to a change in hunting policy. A sustainable approach is clearly required here, and the hunters have a good knack for balancing social and ecological concerns.
