Scandal trial in Mainz: Defendant insults judges and experts!
On August 14, 2025, the focus will be on an appeal process at the Mainz regional court that has been a topic of conversation for a long time. A 58-year-old man is fighting his prison sentence and has dealt with the justice system in Mainz and Worms several times in recent years. The presiding judge Tobias Suder had to intervene again because the defendant repeatedly loudly expressed his displeasure during the meeting.
In the courtroom, the man behaved anything but reserved. He interrupted judges and witnesses, read out his own applications and even described an expert as a “ridiculous Fritz”. Such behavior is anything but beneficial in an appeal process that would normally only take half a day. Instead, the hearing, which is also being extended by numerous requests from the defendant, could last at least three days.
History and previous judgments
The defendant's history is anything but calm. In total, he has already been convicted seven times for various offenses. Most recently, the Worms district court gave him a sentence of one year and six months without parole, including for insulting him. Unbelievable but true: He is now appealing against this verdict, as he has previously against other decisions.
The core of the current case revolves around a homepage that the man runs. There are insulting reports about police officers, politicians and judges. Particularly explosive: The defendant denies having written these articles himself and instead claims that an unknown man in South America is responsible for them.
Upcoming negotiation dates
Due to the defendant's many requests, the process is lengthened considerably. The testimony of an IT security expert also had to be interrupted. This will continue on September 2nd and listeners can stay tuned to see how the case develops. At a time when many are hopefully experiencing less stress in courtrooms, this trial continues to raise eyebrows.
It remains to be seen whether the court can break the chaotic course of its trial and what twists and turns the defendant will face before the final decision is made. One thing is certain: the judiciary still has some challenges to overcome with him.
