69-year-old injured in overtaking maneuver – focus on safety on Tyrol’s roads!

A serious traffic accident occurred on June 22, 2025 at 6:25 p.m. in the Tyrolean region when a 69-year-old man was injured while overtaking. How MyDistrict reported, the accident site was a prominent traffic junction where overtaking often takes place. The local police describe the driver's maneuver as risky, which led to the serious incident.

The exact cause of the accident is still unclear. There is currently no answer to questions from residents as to whether measures are planned to improve traffic safety in this particularly vulnerable zone. The various central traffic axes in Tyrol are the focus of the state's security strategy, which is implemented through close cooperation between the state of Tyrol, the Road Safety Board and the police. This is the Tyrolean road safety strategy until 2034. This strategy aims to reduce the number of traffic deaths and serious injuries on the roads by at least 50 percent compared to the years 2019 to 2023 kfv.at clarified.

More safety for road users

In recent years the traffic situation in Tyrol has been turbulent. In 2024, 32 traffic deaths were counted, including two children, and around 4,800 were injured. The danger is particularly high on open roads, where higher speeds create risky situations. This is clearly reflected in the accident statistics. It is evident that motorcycles and bicycles pose a high risk of serious injury, highlighting the urgency of comprehensive road safety measures.

The traffic safety strategy includes eight fields of action that are based on accident statistics. The focus is particularly on traffic calming in local areas as well as improving protective routes and cycling infrastructure. Awareness raising measures and training for all age groups should be intensified. Police checks will also be increased to raise safety awareness and minimize accident-prone behavior.

Future-oriented transport design

The strategy also follows the “Safe System” concept, in which responsibility is distributed equally among all road users. This approach is unavoidable, especially in times of technological change, which brings topics such as e-mobility and autonomous driving into focus. Regular reviews and adjustments of existing traffic safety strategies are essential in order to be able to guarantee a safe traffic environment in the future.
