European Christmas traditions: Festive musical magic in Rheinbach!

On November 27, 2025, things will be very festive in Rheinbach. The Archbishop's St. Joseph High School invites all citizens to the performance of a special Christmas musical. The fifth graders present “European Christmas,” an event that is not only contemplative, but also brings European ideas to the fore. Visitors will get to know the diversity of Christmas traditions in eight different languages, as Blick aktuell reports.

It starts on Thursday, November 27th at 4:30 p.m. After the musical, everyone is cordially invited to visit the European Christmas market, which takes place in the schoolyard and in the school building. Here, stands with Christmas decorations, gift items and typical local dishes will be waiting for visitors. The school community and the citizens of Rheinbach can look forward to a celebration of peace and solidarity among peoples.

Sense of community and gratitude

“With this event we want to strengthen European cohesion and celebrate the diversity of our culture,” explains Petra Hennigfeld, the deputy head of the school. She emphasizes the importance of exchange and would like to welcome many guests, big and small. To carry out this great project, numerous contributors are needed. Their thanks go to the music teachers Claudia Cronenberg, Heike Jüliger, Annemarie Löffler and Katja Mielnik as well as the technology group, the bands and all parents and students who contribute to the success of the market with their stands. Particularly worth mentioning is the deployment of paramedics who ensure the safety of visitors.

You can really look forward to a real celebration! Before the official opening of the Christmas market stalls, the musical will put guests in the Christmas spirit. This combination of cultural presentation and community interaction makes the event a highlight in the Rheinbach event calendar.

A look beyond the borders

Christmas markets are not only a tradition in Germany, but are also popular in many European countries. “From Belfast to Bucharest – local traditions and delicacies are presented across all the romantic Christmas markets,” says an article on Merkur. Germany alone is home to several thousand Christmas markets, which are often not far from your own front door. Neighboring countries offer additional inspiration with their own markets, some of which are inspired by German tradition.

While mulled wine variations and Spanish turrón are enjoyed in Scandinavia, the Christmas market in Gdansk also conjures up a magical atmosphere with its festively decorated old town streets that attracts visitors from near and far. And as the Christmas season approaches, the musical event at St. Joseph-Gymnasium invites you to experience the magic of European Christmas traditions on site.

In summary, it can be said that the Christmas market and the musical not only entertain, but also promote the idea of togetherness and cultural connection. Anyone who does not want to miss the opportunity is warmly invited to spend a few contemplative hours with the school community!
