Bingen celebrates Bücherei³: record participation in the reading summer 2025!
A great event was recently celebrated in Bingen! The Library³ was honored for her remarkable participation in the Reading Summer 2025. The award was presented by the State Library Center at a ceremony in Neustadt an der Weinstraße. At the center of the event were 222 enthusiastic children who managed to read around 2000 books!
Dr. In his speech, Felix Schmidt from the Ministry for Family, Women, Culture and Integration emphasized the immense importance of reading for the development of children. This underlines the central role that libraries play in promoting reading, as bibliotheksverband.de emphasizes. Mayor Thomas Feser also expressed his joy about the award and appealed to the importance of promoting reading.
Reading Summer: A popular program for young readers
The reading summer has been organized annually since 2008 and is under the patronage of the Ministry for Family, Women, Culture and Integration Rhineland-Palatinate. Children and young people between the ages of 6 and 16 can take part - a wonderful opportunity to awaken the youngest's love of reading. Many schools support this project by rewarding participation with a positive entry in the next report card, which further increases motivation.
The objective is clear: schools and libraries want to introduce young readers to the joy of books. Participation is simple: In order to receive a certificate, the children must read and evaluate at least three books during the summer holidays. The current children's and young adult books provided by public libraries are free and are aimed particularly at those who read rarely or not at all, which makes the offer all the more valuable Rhineland-Palatinate State Library Office emphasized.
Books and their irreplaceable role in society
Libraries are much more than just places to borrow books. They actively support the process of learning to read and language education, as bibliotheksverband.de highlights. With a variety of offerings, including media boxes, author readings and reading mentors, they are a valuable part of education and leisure activities for families. The Reading Summer is just one of the many programs that aim to make it easier for children and young people to access literature.
The library manager Julia Löffler received the certificate and a book voucher for the outstanding commitment of her team and the reading summer helpers. This award is not only a reason to celebrate, but also an incentive for the future. Reading is a key skill that needs to be further promoted in the coming years. Everyone involved agrees: There is still a lot to be done and the joy of books should be passed on!
