Brigitte Bartels: New hope for seniors in Maikammer!

A breath of fresh air is blowing in the Maikammer municipality: Brigitte Bartels has been elected as the new senior representative. The election took place on the board of the association council and was a step towards greater representation of the older generations. Suggestions for the election came from the SPD, of which Bartels is a member, and the decision was made with only four no votes. To date, there has been no senior representative at the municipal level, which makes the urgency of this office clear. To date, senior citizen work has primarily been carried out at local community level, such as in Maikammer, where Elisabeth Buchenberger-Klodt has responsibility in this area. In the neighboring communities of Kirrweiler and St. Martin, however, teams of several people are already working on senior care. These developments represent encouraging progress for communities that increasingly need to address the needs of their older populations.

Brigitte Bartels not only brings a breath of fresh air, but also valuable experience to her new position. She has also recently become first chairwoman of the SPD's 60 plus working group in the Edenkoben-Maikammer community association. She took over this position from Alexander von Rettberg, who did not run again for reasons of age. At the general meeting, which took place in the community center in Hainfeld, Bartels was elected with great confidence by the members, and her colleague Rudi Jacob takes on the role of second chairman. Von Rettberg will remain on the new board in an advisory capacity and emphasizes the need to move forward with the work that has been slowed down by the corona pandemic.

New course in senior policy

AG 60 plus, which was founded in Hainfeld over ten years ago, has recently dealt intensively with the challenges of the older generation. Despite the difficulties brought about by the corona pandemic, the AG took part in elections, both in the state and federal elections. The SPD district chairman Florian Funk sees the importance of seniors as a group of voters and is optimistic about the next challenges, including the local and European elections.

Bartels, who worked in the administration of the city of Herne for 47 years, particularly in social administration, has made Maikammer her home for the last three years, which she affectionately refers to as the “island of the blessed”. The new board of AG 60 plus is made up of other committed members, including Heinz Lambert as secretary and several assessors from various local associations.

Together for a strong representation of senior citizens

The election of Brigitte Bartels shows the will to change and improve work for seniors in the region. With their great experience and the support of the new management team of AG 60 plus, a positive development is in sight. Increased visibility of the concerns of older citizens and better coordination of senior citizens' work can make a decisive contribution to ensuring that the voices and needs of this group are heard and are taken more into account in local politics.

In summary, the election as senior representative and the new club management of AG 60 plus are a sign that the concerns of older generations in Maikammer and the surrounding area are taken seriously and actively addressed. The political work continues to be supported by the organization AG 60plus Rhineland-Palatinate, which advocates for the needs of older people and puts numerous important topics on its agenda.
