Schlossstraße Festival 2025: Celebrate freedom, wine and culture in Hambach!
The Black-Red-Gold Castle Street Festival in Hambach is coming up! From June 13th to 15th, 2025, the picturesque surroundings around Hambach Castle will be transformed into a festival of freedom, wine and history. The kick-off will take place on Friday, June 13th, at 7 p.m. on the town hall square, where visitors are warmly expected to attend the opening. From 6 p.m. there is the special wine tasting “Freedom in the Glass”, which is available for 18 euros and includes a glass deposit. This festival, which focuses on the inseparable connection between culture and enjoyment, promises an unforgettable experience for all ages.
Under the motto “Thoughts are free…”, quotes from great personalities that make you think are presented along the festival mile. On Saturday, June 14th, visitors have the opportunity to take part in a wild herb tour at 3 p.m. or experience a sparkling tasting experience with the sparkling wine message tour. Those interested should not miss the “1832 and the Wine” walk at 4 p.m. History comes to life here and the cost is 12 euros, including three wine tastings. Musical variety from rock to salsa rounds off the day's program.
A festival full of highlights
The last day of the festival, Sunday, June 15th, starts with a cozy white sausage breakfast at 11:30 a.m., accompanied by musical entertainment. The play “Unity and Law and Freedom” will be performed at 2:30 p.m., while the little ones will get their money’s worth with the children’s program “Panthea – Guardian of the Time Travelers” from 4 p.m. The crowning conclusion of the Schlossstrasse Festival is a concert on the town hall square, which begins at 6 p.m. Over 20 bars and culinary oases invite you to indulge in the finest regional specialties. These include the Fuxbau wine bar & restaurant with modern cuisine and the wine inn “Zur Fassdaube”, which offers Mediterranean dishes.
But the Schlossstrasse Festival is more than just a festival of culinary delights. It draws its inspiration from the historical roots of the Hambach Festival, which took place in Hambach Castle in 1832. At that time, the “German Fatherland Association for the Support of the Free Press” advocated for national unity and freedom of the press – issues that are still very relevant today. The founding of this association was closely linked to the commitment to enlightenment and freedom of speech. Many of the early supporters, including important personalities such as Friedrich Student and Philipp Jakob Siebenpfeiffer, worked tirelessly for the rights and freedoms of their fellow citizens. This history is not only honored but also celebrated at the Schlossstrasse Festival.
Hambach Castle itself acts as a symbol of the democratic struggles that took place in Germany. This year, the festival offers the opportunity to remember the eventful history and at the same time experience joy and enjoyment in community. The association behind the original festival was founded in Zweibrücken-Bubenhausen in 1832, and its goals are still relevant today, as the current discussions about freedom and democracy show. The pressure from the Bavarian government at the time to ban the festival failed thanks to the commitment of the liberal democratic movement.
What remains is a celebration full of joy of life, an opportunity to enjoy what is special about the region to the fullest and to orientate yourself on the history that connects us all. The Schlossstrasse Festival offers a wonderful platform not only for celebration, but also for reflection and exchange. Be there and experience three days full of freedom, wine and history in Hambach!
