City takes over ailing daycare center: New hope for Lambrecht's children!

The Arche Noah daycare center in Lambrecht is facing a decisive turning point. The building in need of renovation could soon become the responsibility of the city. An application from the Protestant Church to take over the area shows that there is an urgent need for action. A lack of childcare places has been a burning issue in Lambrecht for years and the debate about it was recently reignited when Timo Jordan, the councilor for the Bad Dürkheim district, wrote a letter on this topic rheinpfalz.de reported.

A solution proposal is already underway: The Youth Welfare Committee has currently decided on a comprehensive daycare needs plan that extends until 2028. This plan includes a total of 90 facilities in the district to care for children aged zero to six. The investments are not to be despised, because the district plans to invest at least 11.5 million euros in structural measures for daycare providers, according to information from kreis-bad-duerkheim.de and mittelpfalz.de.

Investments for the future

In the current plan, 112 places are available for the very little ones, while 5,929 childcare places are already available for children between the ages of two and six. This represents an increase of over 200 places since 2020 and shows that the need is recognized.

It's not just the places that are important, the quality of the care is also crucial. With the new daycare law, which has been in force since July 1, 2021, parents now have a legal right to seven hours of care including a warm meal. Transitional solutions will be in force until 2028, which also allow packed lunches if a warm meal cannot be provided. As a result, the district will have achieved a rate of 91.62 percent for consistent care with lunch by the end of 2024.

Planning and construction measures

The expansion and new construction projects are numerous, including several daycare centers in the municipality of Leiningerland, which are being expanded to include a second location. In addition, a new, single-group municipal daycare center will be set up in Bockenheim, which will be funded by the district with almost 130,000 euros. There is also progress in Grünstadt, as a forest daycare center has established itself as a group of the municipal daycare center “Pfalzkitz”, funded with almost 40,000 euros.

Overall, the plan also includes new buildings for the cities of Grünstadt, Lambrecht, Bad Dürkheim and Haßloch, which will accommodate five to six groups in the new facilities. The new daycare centers in Haßloch will even have space for 150 children each, with completion scheduled for between the end of 2026 and the end of 2028. So it remains exciting to see how the care landscape in the region will develop.

Investments in daycare centers are seen as key measures to meet the needs of future generations. This is where we hit the nerve of the times, because ensuring sufficient childcare places is of great importance for many families, and the district is trying to respond to the challenges step by step.
