FV Engers is honored in the Golden Book for Rhineland Cup victory!
On July 4, 2025, the city of Neuwied shone particularly brightly when FV Engers ceremoniously entered the city's Golden Book. This festive occasion honored the club's fantastic win of the Rhineland Cup, for which it had won for the third time in its history. It was a more than worthy moment, which was underlined by the presence of Mayor Jan Einig and the city council. Former coach Sascha Watzlawik also did the honors and was proud of the successes of his former protégés.
With two decisive goals from Vadim Semchuk and Goran Naric, FV Engers secured the Rhineland Cup. This performance not only won the hearts of the fans, but also secured direct qualification for the DFB Cup resulted. Numerous clubs compete against each other in this renowned competition, which has been held annually by the German Football Association since 1935. The DFB Cup is the second most important title in national club football after the German championship.
The DFB Cup adventure
The next big highlight for FV Engers is imminent. On Sunday, August 17th, the Engers team will meet Eintracht Frankfurt, who qualified for the Champions League this season, in the DFB Cup. Of course, there is a special treat for the fans: free shuttle buses are offered so that as many fans as possible can make the journey to the stadium on Koblenz Oberwerth. This decision was made because, due to DFB regulations, the game cannot take place on the home artificial turf at the water tower.
The final has been held in the Berlin Olympic Stadium since 1985, and the knockout system ensures exciting encounters every year. To win the title, the teams have to survive three rounds, with 18 clubs from the Bundesliga and the 2nd Bundesliga as well as the best teams from the lower leagues taking part. Surprises are not uncommon: the DFB Cup has a long history in which lower-class teams have been able to defeat higher-class opponents, a fact that only increases the fascination of this competition.
Celebrate in Engers
Regardless of the outcome, there will be a celebration in Engers at the end of the game, as the club management has already promised. The city's residents can look forward to a happy event that will really bring cohesion and club life to life. After a thrilling match, the city will certainly be full of cheering fans who will properly celebrate FV Engers' great success.
