Jürgen Faßbender: 40 years of music, joy and success in Diez!
There is reason to be happy in the Cologne choir scene! Germania can look back on an impressive 25 years of musical work, largely influenced by the tireless work of Jürgen Faßbender. How mittelhessen.de reports, Faßbender has developed an excellent reputation among concertgoers and made the Germania attractive as a gathering point for young up-and-coming singers.
With a combination of musical consistency, humor and patience, he manages to create a unique atmosphere in which both performance and joy have their place. His many years of conducting activity were recently honored by representatives of the choir associations - a beautiful moment that properly celebrated 40 years in the Rhineland-Palatinate Choral Association.
Honors and awards
Together with Jürgen Faßbender, other pioneers of choral music were also honored, including Raimund Schäfer from the RLP choir association, Karin Amstutz, the chairwoman of the Unterlahn association, and Bettina Scholl, the district choir director in the Unterlahn association. These honors underline the importance of volunteer work in the choir scene and highlight how valuable volunteer contributions are to the community.
Of course, the choir landscape in Rhineland-Palatinate also has a lot to offer! The Rhineland-Palatinate Choir Association reports on the numerous successes at the CANDORO choir festival in Morbach. In particular, the Horbach men's choir under the direction of Jürgen Faßbender can look forward to an outstanding success with 14 points and a gold diploma. This proves once again that musical work is flourishing in the region.
A look at the choir scene
The choir scene is growing and thriving, and not just locally. The German Choir Association is an important part with its 21 member associations and the German Choir Youth. It represents a proud 700,000 members in around 13,000 choirs - a community that promotes solidarity and brings a lot of joy through singing together. The various forms of choral music include mixed choirs, men's choirs and even pop and jazz choirs, which reflect the diversity of vocal music.
Over 300,000 choral concerts take place in Germany every year - an enormous number that shows how lively choral music is and how strongly it is rooted in cultural life. As if that wasn't enough, “Choral Music in German Amateur Choirs” was even included in UNESCO's list of intangible cultural heritage.
So things remain exciting in the Cologne choir scene and beyond. The coming months promise further highlights, both for Germania and for the entire choral culture in the region. From the new practical training for children's choir conducting, which starts in autumn 2025, to exciting concert events - there is still a lot in the air!
