Birkenfeld in danger: business deals exceed new start-ups!
The Birkenfeld National Park District is confronted with an alarming situation that gives food for thought. According to current figures from the Rhineland-Palatinate State Statistical Office, the district has more deregistrations than new registrations in the business. Sebastian Weber, the chairman of the Birkenfeld FDP district association, describes this situation as a serious alarm signal. Birkenfeld is the only district in Rhineland-Palatinate that records more closures than new businesses.
The FDP has great hope for new impulses in economic development in order to revive business in Birkenfeld. Support comes from the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, which is funding the expansion of the former Heinrich Hertz barracks into a business and crafts park with 6.5 million euros. This move represents a significant part of the effort to create new jobs and economic dynamism in the county.
Ökompark as an opportunity
Another highlight of the region's economic development is the creation of the Heide-Westrich Eco Park. The Ökompark is one of the 13 so-called turbo areas in Rhineland-Palatinate that were specifically selected to create an attractive location for companies. This initiative could be the key to securing existing businesses and attracting new companies to Birkenfeld.
The FDP also calls for the establishment of coworking spaces for founders, start-ups and self-employed people in the district. A lack of infrastructure for modern forms of work is a major problem in Birkenfeld, especially in comparison to neighboring Rhine-Hunsrück. There is a lot of catching up to do to offer the young and dynamic start-up scene an appealing platform.
Collaboration across borders
Another goal is closer cooperation between companies and the Birkenfeld Environmental Campus. The political initiative aims to connect research, innovation and business more closely and create synergies. This networking could potentially help eliminate the need to prioritize projects with foreign investors that have failed in the past.
The FDP's priority is to secure existing businesses while attracting new companies in order to promote job creation and revitalize industry in the region. “We have to take action now to position Birkenfeld as an attractive location for the future,” emphasizes Weber, speaking from the hearts of many people.
Discussions with the state and committed local entrepreneurs are already in full swing. All eyes are on the coming developments, which could not only change the commercial structure of the district, but also significantly improve the standard of living for the population.
