Speyer invests in the Old Town Festival: A new music program is waiting!
The city of Speyer has taken the initiative and is generous with its budget for promoting tourism here. A large portion of this money goes to the popular Old Town Festival, which will take place in September. Interestingly, the music program on the stages at the Fischmarkt and in the Cathedral Garden will no longer be organized by private companies this year, but rather directly by the city. The festival promises to show a completely new face.
The Old Town Festival, which celebrated its premiere in 1976, will take place onSeptember 6, 2024officially opened. Mayor Stefanie Seiler will kick things off at 6 p.m., accompanied by the city band, which will be playing at the fish market from 5:30 p.m. The traditional draft beer tapping of the Eichbaum brewery provides a festive setting.
Diverse music program
What is on offer now? The program at the fish market is bursting with talent. On the Friday after the opening, the “Hot Wine Punchers” will play, while on Saturday “Die Pfälzer Frühgrumbeere” will entertain guests. But things are also happening on Hasenpfuhlstrasse: The band “Idole” will rock the stage there on Friday from 8 p.m., followed by “Radiosoul” on Saturday.
The Altstadtrock Speyer 2024 will also take place. With bands like "Montez" and "Boppin' B" on Friday and "Liquid" and "HELP! A Beatles Tribute" on Saturday, there is something for every musical taste. The Retscherruine offers an equally exciting line-up and the Trinity Parish has also put together a varied program.
Family friendly activities
The family offer must not be neglected! OnSeptember 7, 2024Children and families are warmly invited to celebrate in the St. Magdalena Monastery from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Here, little visitors can expect archery and goal wall shooting, a chain car course and much more - including a raffle with a main prize from a children's birthday party.
A special highlight will be the Hasenpfühler duck race, which starts at 3 p.m. at the Salzturmbrücke. The award ceremony will take place at 3:45 p.m. on the stage in Hasenpfuhlstrasse.
Regulations and restrictions
Of course, there are some regulations surrounding the festival that must be observed. The curfews are set so that the music plays until midnight and the bar is served until 1 a.m. at the most. A general order prohibits the bringing of alcoholic beverages and the consumption of cannabis in the festival area.
Preparations are already in full swing: Set-up for the festival begins on September 4th, and it is recommended to take care of parking plans early, as residents' parking spaces in the festival area are closed. From August 26th, parking permit cards for residents can be picked up at the citizens' office.
Based on a comprehensive Study on music festivals in Germany, highlighting the cultural and economic importance of such events, the Old Town Festival is an excellent example of how music and culture can strengthen the local community while promoting tourism and business.
