Rhineland-Palatinate is relying on a new tourism strategy for young families!

The tourism landscape in Rhineland-Palatinate has experienced some challenges in recent years, but the latest developments are making people sit up and take notice. On Monday, October 30th, Economics Minister Daniela Schmitt (FDP) will present a new tourism strategy in Mainz, which aims to inspire families and younger travelers in particular to vacation in the region. This includes close cooperation with the Chambers of Industry and Commerce, Dehoga, Rhineland-Palatinate Tourism and the tourism and spa associations. The initiative is intended to provide new impetus and further modernize the tourism offering. N-tv reports that an increasing number of guests and overnight stays is expected for the current year, which further increases the anticipation of the new measures.

Current figures underline the upward trend in the region: Last year, around 8.7 million guests visited Rhineland-Palatinate, which represents an increase of 1.3 percent compared to the previous year. The number of overnight stays also rose by 0.4 percent to a total of 22.4 million. However, in the first half of 2025, the region recorded mixed results: While the number of overnight stays increased by 0.3 percent compared to the pre-Corona year of 2019, the number of guests fell by 1 percent. This shows that there is still a lot of work to be done to increase its attractiveness. Loud Statistics Rhineland-Palatinate The Mosel-Saar and Eifel tourism regions in particular recorded positive developments: in the Mosel-Saar region there was an increase in the number of guests by 8.2 percent and overnight stays by 5.9 percent.

Mixed results from the regions

The balance of the individual regions in Rhineland-Palatinate is different. While the Ahr Valley was able to report a significant increase of 19 percent in guests and 16 percent in overnight stays from January to July 2025 compared to the previous year, the numbers in the Palatinate and Rheinhessen are rather poor, with declines of 1 percent and 1.4 percent in guests. Particularly worth mentioning is the positive trend among campsites, which delivered excellent results with an increase of 23 percent. On the other hand, the number of overnight stays in classic hotels is stagnating and has fallen by 0.1 percent. The numbers come from the “ destatis “Survey that offers a comprehensive picture of the tourist situation and the structure of the hospitality industry.

The preparations for the new tourism strategy appear to be well advised. Even if the figures in an international comparison - foreign guests fell short of their potential in 2025 with 946,000 guests and 2.6 million overnight stays - show a certain need for action, domestic demand and commitment in the regions still show promising approaches. The unveiling of this strategy could set the stage for an exciting tourism future.

In summary, Rhineland-Palatinate and its tourism players are in constant competition for better rankings in travel behavior. Through targeted measures and new strategies, the next step towards a successful tourism future could soon be taken.
